Bring your Biggest Issues

Whether you're struggling with questions of identity, life transition, coping with grief and loss, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, or other compulsivity...

We can create your path toward healing.

LGBT-Affirming Therapy

I am an LGBT-affirmative therapist and I work in and with the community.  I understand that it's not your sexual orientation that's a problem. The problem is the stigma, oppression and judgement projected onto LGBT people. Sometimes the least safe place can be in your own family, not to mention the culture. And, LGBT people struggle with many of the same issues as everyone else.

Addictions

Much of my experience has been in working with people recovering from addictions, as well as their families and loved ones. Recovery from co-dependency and emotional sobriety are as important  as recovery from substances; or compulsivity with sex, porn, food, gambling or love. You may have just completed a treatment program and now you are sober. Let's work on the underlying issues that you were trying to self-medicate, so they don't continue to rob you of happiness and threaten your sobriety.

Recovery is Possible.

Men's Issues

A special focus of my work is with Men and Men's Issues

A man needing to see a therapist

I know it takes a lot of courage for a man in our culture to walk into a therapist's office and admit he needs help. The truth is, we do need help. From the time we are boys, we are taught to deny and suppress our feelings. So it's no wonder that many men are lost when it comes to understanding and expressing emotion. And these are the keys to healthy, long-lasting relationships. The traditional role for men is to be an invulnerable performer. And neither of these roles breed intimacy.

If you want more, if you want to learn how to be more empathic and connected and able to be vulnerable, so your relationships can thrive, give me a call.

Healing Is Possible

Depression & Anxiety

Depression, fear, shame and anxiety can take control over your life. Some of the ways we learn to cope with these often makes things worse. Cycles of obsession, hopelessness and isolation can destroy lives. With the right kind of help, you can rediscover YOU, and your motivation, perspective, and joy and live a life you love.

Trauma, PTSD & EMDR

Trauma impacts people's lives in subtle and profound ways. It can  shatter lives. AND it's possible to overcome trauma, even the trauma of growing up in dysfunction, disconnection or abuse.

  • Shock Trauma (PTSD)
  • Complex trauma
  • Developmental trauma

"Big T" Traumas like war, life threat or violence can lead to PTSD.

"Small t" trauma, like growing up in chronic fear, helplessness, humiliation, shame or abandonment can affect development of the nervous system and personality.

Healing is Possible.

I am trained in EMDR, an evidence-based trauma resolution therapy that is shown to help people overcome traumatic memories and alleviate suffering.

Relationships

Healthy relationship is a struggle for many people. Many factors including trauma, fear, attachment and your family of origin can affect your abiity to remain present, loving and connected. And shame makes it difficult to love yourself or to let love in. The right kind of counseling can help you deepen emotional connections across all of your relationships, including with yourself.

Some Common Questions...

Do You Take Insurance?

I do not take insurance, but

I CAN PROVIDE YOU A SUPER-BILL FOR INSURANCE REIMBURSEMENT.

Every plan is different, so contact your insurance company and ask about working with an

"out of network therapist".

In some cases, the cost after reimbursement is similar to your copayment.

Is Therapy Confidential?

Yes, the relationship between a therapist and client is privileged and protected by law. So what is said in my office, stays in the office. There are strict limits to confidentiality, involving reporting child or elder abuse and threat of harm to yourself or another.

How Much does Therapy Cost?

My fee is $130

I accept cash, checks

and credit cards in the Los Alamitos Office.
